Collection: Figure Studies

Figure studies are preparatory paintings for larger narrative works by Jay Senetchko. Each figure in most paintings by the artist are based on one of these studies, and each one of those are painted from life.

Senetchko has been working with some models for decades, and the relationship that has developed between him and them directly contributes to the final result of the painting of which they are a part. This has become an integral part of the artist's process, sometimes altering the entire direction and intended meaning of a picture or body of work.

These studies offer insight into the importance of human relationships and of the unplanned in Jay Senetchko's paintings.
